Tragic Assembly continues to delve into the limitless possibilities of free form music on their new album, Tragic Assembly & Tatsuya Nakatani, Live At The ArtsCenter, a performance staged at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro, NC. The session was recorded in 2022, when the trio of Venable, Pence and Chace was in the process of exploring the directions they wanted to consider. “Our improvised sessions seem to flow effortlessly,” Venable said. “Tatsuya [Nakatani] was on tour and joined in for the fun. His drumming added a different dimension and we had a blast. We don’t think too much about how we do it. In our music, we try to eliminate the barrier between subconsciousness and expression. It’s more about listening and responding, than indulging our egos.”
